Do You Need a Web Designer, Web Developer or a Web Implementer? Searching for someone to make you your business website? If this is your first time but you’ve done a little research, you’ve likely read about the three different labels used for website creators – web designer, web developer and web implementer. Which one do you need? First off, a web designer is a professional or team that designs the look and feel of your website. They will work with you on color choices, building your brand/logo if needed, layouts, etc. As opposed to what a lot of people think, web design not only involves aesthetics. A designer should know about marketing concepts – for example, content organization, call to action, etc. – and apply them in a way that helps you reach your goals for the site. On the other hand, a web developer is someone who refers to a designer’s mockups (pictures of what the website is supposed to look like) to build a working website. If you plan to use WordPress, the developer may customize an existing template or theme to suit the mockups, or he may build a totally unique theme. Furthermore, developers may add features or functionality to an existing website, or provide general assistance, as with troubleshooting.

Somewhere in between a designer and a developer is an implementer. However, you must note that there may be some things an implementer can’t do.
News For This Month: Designs
Let’s say you want to open a hair spa. These are what you need your website to do: > Tell people what services you offer > Let clients book appointments > Encourage people to leave their email address so you can tell them about new services, discounts, etc. > Provide your contact details so people can communicate with you You’ll likely need a design/development team or implementer for this rather average list of needs. There are several WordPress plugins that let you do the mentioned tasks, so you don’t really need a highly customized website. Here’s example number two: on top offering hair spa services, you want to begin selling products and signing people up for hairstyling seminars. You will thus need the following additions: > Ecommerce features, SSL and a payment gateway > Inventory management that synchronizes your online and physical shops > More advanced scheduling for hair spa treatments and hairstyling seminars with a limited number of slots > Varying levels of employee or team member access There may be existing tools that you can use to meet these requirements, but you may also need something specifically created for your site. If that is the case, a developer is what you need. Once you know the similarities and differences among a web designer, developer and implementer, it will be easier to find the right professional to create your website.
